Let's talk about death over dinner

What happens when strangers come to dinner to talk about death?

We invited six strangers to the same table. We talked about loss, about waiting for death, about grief and fears. About attitudes. Despite the subject, the evening was not gloomy but warm and full of life. It moved forward in stages, through small tasks, personal experiences and stories. The mood changed many times.

What stayed with people most were the others' stories and perspectives. Looking at the same thing through someone else's life widened one's own view. The stories kept coming back and sparked entirely new thoughts. Perhaps very personal things can sometimes be easier to talk about with strangers than with those closest to us.

Could we talk about other things over dinner too?

People could also gather around the table to talk about retirement, divorce, ageing, giving up a home, losing someone close, or any life change worth looking at together with others. Friends or strangers. Sometimes a conversation needs a place, the people and the moment.
